2000 Blue Ridge Chapter Activities
- The Chapter participated in Nursing Career Day on March 21, 2000 at Brookville High School.
This event was coordinated by the local chapter of the VNA and was open to the public for anyone interested in nursing.
Several schools of nursing were represented, along with a variety of nursing specialties.
Allison Brooks and Audrey Mason represented our chapter with a table display of information
about our organization and were available to speak with interested individuals.
- The Chapter participated in Senior Awareness Day at River Ridge Mall on May 16, 2000.
Members performed blood pressure and blood glucose screenings.
Two glucometers were loaned to us by the diabetes educators at Centra Health. 150 glucometers strips
were donated by Diane McCormick from Centra Health. An additional 350 glucometer strips were given to
us by the Precision representative. 400 alcohol wipes and lancets were donated by The Medicine Shoppe
in Altavista. 400 gloves, a sharps container and the use of a blood pressure cuff were donated by Centra
Health.
Informational material about diabetes and hypertension was distributed. Approximately 335 glucometers were performed.
Chapter members Ellen Morrison, Allison Brooks, Diane Jegel, Cindy Ward and Kay Woolums, along with volunteers
Shirley Staton, Sharon Hix, Dana Stinnett, Gloria Peters, Betty Lane, Melissa Barbour, Kim Lipscomb,
Ann Sharman, Carol Slusher, Nancy Price, Eileen Barry participated.
- Chapter and membership information was displayed at Lynchburg General Hospital and Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg, VA
on Med-Surg Nurses Day, November 1, 2000. Informational flyers describing the chapter's activities, national membership fees and
programs and AMSN bookmarks were distributed to all med-surg units. A raffle was held for AMSN logo items.
