Continuing education application: Changes to the process for the continuing education application require that a Planner participate in each planning meeting. This change went into effect after we began planning the seminar. Cindy has discussed this with Caryn Brown, the clinical educator for Surgical and Ortho. Caryn will assist us with our continuing education application. Cindy will continue to follow-up with her.
Topics:
Pain Management: Dr. Waller is the main speaker. Her topic is acute pain management in the chronic pain patient. Dr. Todd MacDowell, DC will speak on chiropractic options for pain management. Other potential speakers are a massage therapist and pharmacist.
The time allotments for the morning speakers will be: Dr. Waller 1 hour, Dr. MacDowell, 45 minutes, massage therapist, 45 minutes, and pharmacist 30 minutes.
Diabetes: Lilly is providing Dr Mulinda, endocrinologist from Roanoke, to speak, and they will provide lunch. Lilly will also provide breakfast and a program for the physicians. Sylvia Denton will speak about nursing considerations. Also want to ask dietician to speak about carb counting. Karen will ask Mary Lee, RD.
Vendors: Confirmed vendors are Western Ways, Generation Solutions, Abbott, Lantus, and Lilly (lunch). Information has been sent to Lincare. Juanita will ask Abbott or Lantus about sponsoring afternoon beverages. Light Chiropractic can have a table as a courtesy.
Flyers: DOE will not help with mailing, but will print them. A suggestion was made to email the flyers instead of mailing them to decrease cost. AMSN was contacted about mailing list. Need volunteer to compile the email list.
Save the Date: A decision was made to send a "save the date" email to staff telling giving them the speaker list, and topics. Cindy will do this.

Upcoming meetings: July 20 - Autoimmune disorders, Dr. Wilson. Election of officers will take place at this meeting. September 21 - Last planning meeting before the seminar. This meeting will take place at La Caretta.

Cookbooks: Cheryl Burnette, Nurse Retention, took one box of them. Cheryl suggested that each unit give them to their new grads.

Nurses Week: A poster about AMSN was presented.
