Each fall AMSN holds its Annual National Convention. The convention is a gathering of nurses from all over the country for educational programs, professional exhibits, social events, networking opportunities, and the Academy’s annual business meeting.
The 2009 convention was held at the Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C. from September 9 - 14. The opening speaker was Barb Bancroft, MSN, RN, PNP, who presented a hilarious view of the many advances in the clinical field, as well as the changes in the workplace over the years. The keynote speaker was Margo McCaffrey, MS, RN-BC, FAAN who gave insight into misconceptions that hamper pain assessment. Examples of other sessions are Early Sepsis Recognition: Signs You Need to Know and What They Mean; Surviving a Stroke: A Race Against Time; Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI): One Hospital’s Quest to Make It a “Never” Event; Caring for the Orthopaedic Trauma Patient, and Ethnopharmacology.
