   The Blue Ridge Chapter of the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) Nursing Scholarship was created to honor and to provide financial assistance to a registered nursing student with an interest in medical-surgical nursing.

Medical-surgical nurses work in a variety of settings, including acute care, ambulatory surgery, long-term care, rehab, home health, physician's offices and clinics. Medical-surgical nurses are required to possess a wide variety of skills and knowledge. They provide health teaching to their patients and to their community and participate in many other community service activities in addition to their nursing jobs.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Current enrollment in an accredited professional nursing program.
  • Academic standing of junior or senior in an entry level RN program diploma or BSN); or enrollment in a graduate nursing program.
  • Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or greater.
  • Commitment to the profession of nursing, with a specific interest in medical-surgical nursing.

Application forms are available in the Department of Education at Virginia Baptist Hospital and Lynchburg General Hospital, as well as Lynchburg General Hospital School of Nursing, and the Nursing Departments of Lynchburg College and Liberty University, all in Lynchburg , VA.

The completed application must be mailed to the current president of the Blue Ridge Chapter AMSN by April 15.
